Cybersecurity Improvement

In October 2023, we started a pilot project with the Privacy and Cybersecurity team at Technology Services to improve cybersecurity across the Grainger College of Engineering.

The Cybersecurity Improvement Initiative is a multi-year effort to increase security measures on University-owned devices to reduce the risk of ransomware and viruses, and prevents machines from being used as an attack vector.

National and local news has been full of stories of ransomware and security attacks at all levels of digital service. The efforts in our End Point Security project will help improve protection of intellectual property, reduce downtime through proactive monitoring, and increase opportunity for safer collaboration. Additionally, national funding agencies are increasingly requiring device security to ensure less downtime and data protection. The activities of this project will allow researchers to utilize additional layers of cybersecurity to meet these funding requirements.

EngrIT Method

We are currently working with a department or two at a time to ensure that we reach all the devices within a unit. Look for more information from your department head or unit director as we reach your department.

If you are interested in initiating with EngrIT staff, or have questions about the process, please email engrit-security@illinois.edu.
