Partial VM outage 02/27/2015

What: A datastore connection had gone offline on a host, and several VMs could access their disks.

Services affected: Managed Engineering IT Linux workstations (TheLinux), ENGR subversion repositories, Physics SmartPhys4

Event Date and Type: 2015-02-27 1:00 pm – 1:30pm / unplanned outage

Root cause: An ESXi host had lost communication to one of its datastores.

Details:

Infrastructure staff is investigating the cause of this event which appears to be very similar to the 2/12 outage that made the same datastore unavailable to a different ESXi host. The affected VMs were brought back up on the other hosts in the cluster and should be functioning normally.
