PRIMARY FUNCTION: Engineering is looking for an Assistant Web Designer to assist in the development of websites for administrative, research and instructional purposes within the College of Engineering, including design, implementation, and post-production assistance for a variety of web related projects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Publish content provided by College communications personnel to the web
- Review, edit, and modify submitted material, as well as creating original content
- Create photo and art assets for the web
- Respond to user requests for web content publication and updates in a timely manner
- Help users with web-based tools for content submission
- Function as support personnel for Engineering IT and its users
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor’s degree
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Training, Knowledge):
- Minimum 1 year of related experience
- Knowledge and experience with Drupal, Wordpress, or basic HTML-based platforms
- Knowledge and experience with tools like Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver
- Working knowledge of web programming languages
- Working knowledge of best practices for the Web, including accessibility and usability standards
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Training, and Knowledge):
- Experience providing end-user support on web technologies
- Experience developing and maintaining websites at Illinois or other academic environment
- Experience creating and editing documentation
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to large-scale projects within established deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including project management
- Experience participating in diverse workgroups
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service
Engineering IT Web Team is the design and development unit of the College of Engineering Information Technology at the University of Illinois. This team is responsible for supporting the departments and college websites. We also help faculty and research groups develop their web presence, support branding efforts from the college and university, and support digital displays.
